Why Cyber Security is becoming a hot Skill in the industry today ?

As the world becomes increasingly connected via the internet, there is no doubt that cyber security will continue to grow as a career field. The threat landscape has changed dramatically over the last decade.

Today, cyber attacks are no longer limited to large organizations or government agencies. They are now commonplace across all industries and sectors.  Cyber security professionals are in high demand.

A lot of people are interested in Cyber security because it is a hot skill. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for cyber security experts are expected to increase at a much faster rate than average job growth through 2022.

This article will give you some tips on how to become one of those professionals and what education and training you will need to make it happen.

Why is Cyber Security Skill in In-demand ?

Cyber security specialists are in high demand and it’s not hard to see why. The internet is a treasure trove of sensitive data, making it an irresistible target for hackers looking to steal information or disrupt operations.

The skills that cyber security specialists need to protect this data are also in high demand, as the industry is projected to grow by 23% from 2018-2022. In addition to private companies that need help protecting their data and systems, government agencies also need help protecting their information. The FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is among the many government organizations that hire cyber security specialists to work in their IT departments or to work in their field offices.

The demand for cyber security professionals has been increasing dramatically in the past few years. According to a study by (ISC)4, India is expected to create 1 million cyber security jobs in the next three years. This makes it an appealing career choice for many people who are looking to start a new career.

Why is there an increase in demand for Cyber Security professionals?

The BLS cites the following reasons for the demand for cyber security professionals:

  • Companies are investing in information technology, and they will need to protect that investment.
  • There is a growing awareness of the importance of protecting electronic information.
  • Companies are making more use of the Internet and other forms of electronic communication.
  • More businesses are using mobile devices to access information, which makes them vulnerable to cyber attacks.
  • The BLS predicts that the demand for cyber security professionals will continue to grow in the future, and it estimates a need for 190,500 new workers.
  • The number of jobs is expected to increase by 30% between 2022 and 2030.

Is there a Skill Gap for Cyber Security Professionals across the Globe?

Yes, there is a skill gap for cyber security professionals across the globe. The United States has been facing shortages in skilled workers and this trend will likely continue to grow over time. One study found that the United States would need 1.5 million more, cybersecurity professionals, by 2020, and a recent report from Cisco showed that 45% of US security organizations are struggling to find qualified candidates

The shortage of skilled cybersecurity workers worldwide has kept IT organizations from functioning for many years, but in 2020 it lessened as the number of open cyber security positions narrowed from about 4m in 2019 to 3.12m globally, according to (ISC)2, an association for cybersecurity professionals. In the US, the cybersecurity talent gap shrank from about 498,000 in 2019 to 359,000 in 2020.

This is a trend that has been seen in other countries as well. For example, the UK’s National Audit Office reported that there was a shortage of cyber security professionals around the globe and that the shortage is expected to grow even more in the next few years.

The need for skilled cyber security professionals may not be as severe in India, but it’s still a trend that we should watch out for.
